all i have to say is Gustavo De Los Rios! are you kidding me? this studio is located inside Artspace in Raleigh, NC. his work? amazing! he is just one of the artists displaying his heart & soul in this amazing venue. Artspace is a not-for-profit visual art gem in the center of the city that promotes the creative process through art education and exhibitions.
the way it works.. artists join their association and then rent studio space starting around $10 sq. ft. while agreeing to be present for at least 30 hrs. a week to work, sell, and answer questions for the public. if you are trying to survive the recession, this place is perfect. admission is free. they do suggest a $2 donation. however, it's only suggested and is never requested by staff. so, don't sweat it.there are two levels and about 25 or so studios to browse that are unique and inspiring. they also have ongoing exhibitions for regional, national, and international artists.
they are open to the public: tuesday - saturday, 10am - 6pm. studio hours vary depending on the artist. they have a celebratory first friday of every month. they are open from 10am - 10pm and serve cocktails in the evening, perfect precursor to a date! so if you are a lover of art with a low budget, this is your mecca! you won't be disappointed. best thing about the venue....FREE PARKING in front!!
